The Foreign Direct Investor of the Year Award is presented to recognize foreign-owned companies that have made a strategic decision to invest in Maine by either opening a plant or enhancing their existing operations here. In 2013, Dalegip signed a contract with GAC Chemical Corporation to build a new chemical reactor plant at the Searsport facility, creating between 12 and 20 new jobs. This contract represents Maine’s first investment from Mexico. Construction was recently completed on a 5,000 square-foot plant to produce specialty chemicals for the paper industry. The company also hopes to use this successful partnership in Maine as a foundation to enter other markets, such as manufacturing architectural coatings.
