Newborns grow fast and don’t stay still for long. They will soon be able to wiggle or roll right off the changing table. I advise parents to buy a changing table pad with a safety belt that clips around the babies belly whenever they lay on pad. Get into the habit of using the changing table safety belt when changing baby – every time!
Additionally, these pads can slide off the changing table easily so be sure to purchase one with an attachment anchor and necessary hardware, which usually comes with the pad and is easy to install. You’d be surprised at how many parents skip this very important step. (Easy DIY tip: Long strips of Velcro will also work for this task.)
Don’t use the changing pad anymore? You removed the pad and now it’s a dresser? The piece of furniture can still pose a tipping hazard as little ones like to climb making the piece of furniture front heavy. Solution? Anchor the changing table to the wall using a furniture anchor.
