Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZM) defines the coastal zone and recommend best practices for overall growth and development thereby including urban planning and engineering projects besides exploring tourism and other economic opportunities. It will recommend and implement measures for conserving ecosystems, preserving archaeological and heritage sites and managing coastal resources. It consists of plans, guidelines, policies, regulations and coastal zone management strategies. It promotes and encourages Government agencies to utilize scientific data and continuous monitoring of the coastal zone to minimize the impacts from climate change and coastal developments. The set of policies, regulations and guidelines will clearly define the framework of a coastal management mechanism with legal status that will aid decision making structure.
