Soundscape is a sound or a combination of sounds that forms or arises from an immersive environment.
Sound is often an element that is not perceived consciously because it is beyond visual reach. Moreover it is a insidious source of stress. We are extremely tolerant to noise pollution because of the advantages it gives us, mainly transportation and technologies. But studies show a list of physical and psychological effects including cardiovascular problems, changes in the immune system and birth defects.
My objective was to bring awareness to the quality of the outdoor soundscape. By creating a visual vocabulary for each type of sound and let them interfere with each other, the displaying platform will naturally translate the proportions of natural sounds against anthropogenic noise.
By absorbing the sound, the installation quietly showcases the outdoors, bringing a new medium of information that draws from a real world intangible phenomenon into a virtual yet tangible display.
