The TEDxZurich 2015 Show Opener combines handcraft skills and fine arts to create soul reaching experiences.
Erik took this years TEDx claim “ Re-Imagining Everything” literally – He went out of his way to explore and develop a new animation technic that allows the viewer to dive into the animation and experience the hidden powers of “Re-Imagining Everything”.
The animation journey started with “Beatrice Brisolin” a renowned dancer based in Berlin, who created and performed a unique choreography for our TEDxZurich piece. The captured footage was retraced and cell animated by hand on a computer thereby creating the 3D feeling in a very cubist inspired manner.
The next step in the process was taking everything and going entirely analog again. All of the frames were printed out in order to repaint them with watercolors to achieve the organic bleeding and blending of the geometric objects. This process created the perfectly imperfect boarders between the objects. It was inspiring seeing how different colors and shapes influenced each other. There was no way we could have reached the organic texture we had in mind by staying digital during the production.
The look and technic developed allows us to dive in to different states of reality. From analog real world situations to digital composed situations, from the known to the unknown, from ripping apart reality and rearranging the DNA geometry of our characters to form new moments in time and space.
At this point we want to Thank you Erik for creating this amazing TEDxZurich Opener, and while we are at it all the other directors and animators from previous years who’ve put lots of love into creating holistic animation experiences with soul for all the TEDx events.
