"Italian Contemporary Art Exposition in Villerupt”
with artists: Daniele Alonge, BR1, Chekos Art, Dott.Porka’s
There is no train station in Villerupt but there is a Gare Routiere. It is a long time that there was no rush and travel hustle but it will change between 30th October - 15th November, during First Show of Italian Contemporary Art in Villerupt.
Daniele Alonge (Catania), BR1 (Torino), Chekos Art and AniaK collective (Lecce) and Dott Porka's collective (Torino) present selection of their works commenting on current issues of the global society, like immigration, crisis, war. Using the medium of canvas, photography, video and installation the artists bring us to the imaginary journey that starts here, in the waiting room of the bus station.
From here, the collective Dott Porka's takes us to the South of Italy with the three large scale photographs, the result of the process called by the collective: the Street-Photo-Performance. What it exactly means? An action with Dott Porka's characters, taking place in abandoned locations, documented with the photography and the video, aiming at giving new meaning to the location and restoring its life. The process turns into kind of investigation.
On the other hand, the works of Daniele Alonge invites us to kind of self-investigation. Alonge disturbs us with the images, leaving us in the impression of "tickling- feet": it is funny, but only till certain moment. Zooming into our religious an political convictions with images of Jesus and burned map can create an AHA-effect, but also a kind of creative discomfort.
This impression continues, when we stand face-to-face with the strong images of women presented by BR1. Known usually from the large scale posters pasted on the streets of Torino, Rome, Warsaw, Paris, Istanbul, here presented by the artist in small scale, on musical instruments. Is it the way of giving the voices to the persons, often muted in daily situations? We might avoid our response to them when watching the news, but here we re caught in nearly personal interaction.
The exposition is a complementary show to the 38th Festival of Italian Film in Villerupt and offers to the audience another, 3D-narrative of the world, seen by Italian eyes. It is particularly interesting to see the works of urban artists active everyday on the street, here presenting selection of artworks in smaller dimensions.
Nevertheless, the mural of Chekos Art with faces of Italian actors looks at us from the top of the Gare Routiere, inviting the audience to get the ticket to this special travel.
