This video is research data from the 2015 Imperial Oil Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (IOSTEM) Academy. The research focus is on how computer programming and robotics support arithmetic thinking.
In this clip, the teacher and Krista are trying to help Liam program with loops. Liam, on the left, identifies that a pentagon has three sides. When asked to count the sides, he walks around the pentagon counting aloud and announces ‘5 times.’ Author 1 explains that 5 times is the number of times to repeat the two block codes (go straight and turn) in the loop. Liam exclaims excitedly, ‘Yes!’
