Inspired by the 90's TV sitcom, "Home Improvement", starring Tim Allen.
I've always loved the over-the-top scene transitions and swipes they used. Film editors of the show took elements from the scene and animated them either to dismantle a scene or assemble the incoming scene, in parts. Some of them were very intricate and impressive. I wonder how they did it back then. Today it's relatively easy using Photoshop and Final Cut Studio (FCP or Motion).
Time permitting, I'm adding them to my own show, Motorz TV motorz.tv
Alpha channel image created using Photoshop, then animated using Final Cut Pro 7's key framing. Very simple to do. It does increase post-production time quite a bit, but I think it's worth it to make your own custom one-off, one-time use transitions.
