“DomestiCITY” by Colombian authors María Mazzanti and Martín Ramirez, was the winner proposal for the urban intervention open call created by 180 Creative Camp in Abrantes, Portugal. The project generated a new kind of public space with a simple but powerful element: Taking the domestic spaces to the public domain. Using second hand furniture, old decoration, some paint and communal activities, the proposal invited people to talk like if they were in their own living room or kitchen and also draw and write about their dreams and desires.
Enhancing participation, placemaking and creative patterns of public space use, “DomestiCITY” also triggered conversations, gossip and rumors around the city, and also brought back the old tradition of taking the furniture out to chat with neighbors. The project was made last summer in Abrantes during 180 Creative Camp.
