Many students are overwhelmed by the writing process. Writing and then (arrrrgh!) editing even simple stories or reports can be tortuous for these kids. In this FREE workshop, Mike Artell will show you how to help reluctant writers (read: Boys) learn to write more and better by writing “short and light.” The emphasis is on writing for the “real world” and adding humor and creativity whenever possible.
Mike Artell is the author and illustrator of more than 35 books for children, parents, and teachers covering such varied topics as young authorship, parties, outer space, robots, the Paralympics, bugs, and weather. His works also include joke books, riddle books, tongue twister books, and several cartooning books. Mike’s children’s picture book, Petite Rouge: A Cajun Red Riding Hood, was chosen the 2009 Read Aloud Book of the Year by the National Association of Elementary School Principals. Among its other awards, Petite Rouge was named an Honor Book by Storytelling World Magazine, and was recognized as a Notable Children’s Trade Book by the National Society for the Social Studies & the Children’s Book Council. Mike has hosted his own television cartooning show and visits more than 50 schools across the U.S., Europe and Asia where he shares his techniques for thinking, writing, and drawing more creatively with students and teachers.
