On the 4th November 2015 the National Campaign Against Fees and Cuts organised a student protest march in the centre of London under the hashtag #grantsnotdebt. Roughly 10,000 students proceeded from Malet St. down Whitehall, past the Houses of Parliament to the Department of Business, Innovation and Skills where a police kettle splintered the march, which wound through London for several more hours until the remnents were kettled again and dispersed. Several protesters were arrested amid allegations of heavy-handed policing. The day after the protest, the government released an education green paper which proposed, among other suggestions, the uncapping of tuition fees.
