"Inside The Foyer aims to break down some stereotypes around The Foyer, a youth accommodation setting in Warrnambool run by Brophy and Family Youth Services. This film was initiated by the young residents at The Foyer. A handful of residents were mentored through the process of filming and editing the film by Colleen Hughson and supported by Foyer staff.
The film aims to show the public what The Foyer is and what it is not. The residents have experienced a lot of negativity towards The Foyer by the general public and this film intends to dis-spell some of the ill informed ideas about the young people themselves and their home.
The Foyer is supported independent living accommodation for young people aged between 16-25 who can live there for up to 2 years. The residents receive support to develop their independent living skills and focus on their education and employment pathways. The young people at the Foyer are responsible for managing their own self-contained units and the project is supported by staff 24/7. The Foyer's motto is "Live, Learn and Earn" and to be eligible for a tenancy you must be experiencing housing difficulties and be motivated to study or work.
