We were brought in to shoot 3 different cities in 8 days for Courtyard of the Marriott hotel brand. The idea for this came about after a successful social media campaign by media agency MEC, where users were encouraged to talk about their favourite places in their cities, with the hashtag UrbanTips. After 2 months they had 1.2M hub visits, with 98% arriving via mobile – far more than usual. There were over 95,000 likes, comments, and shares, which was a 70% improvement on usual interaction rates. An impressive 57% of participants considering a hotel stay felt positive towards Courtyard hotels, something that traditionally would have required millions of pounds of paid media investment.
