installation visible at Mdina Cathedral Contemporary Art Biennale till January,7th 2016.
This work is conceived starting from the idea of Mantra.
The spiritual value of a Mantra comes when it is audible, visible, or present in thought. According to the traditions a Mantra has the power to transform human conscience.
When I was in Malta for the first time, Maltese language and dialects seems to me totally mysterious. I could appreciate just its sounds, so interesting.
My idea was to make a sound digital editing of some Maltese people speaking about the theme of spirituality and conscience. Following the structure of the Indian Mantras, these sounds should have formed a new ritual, a new prayer.
My idea was to relate the repetitive sounds with a repetitive action, like two hands kneading some food. I remember when I saw my grandmother make pasta their hands hypnotized me.
This action in this context has an important role, help me to lead the audience to an open question: how much our spirituality is natural and how much does it derive from the culture?
