The film Soil Saturdays: the art of connecting with soil through food was commissioned by Molly Scott Cato MEP to bring an artistic intervention into the Greens and the European Free Alliance conference, ‘Why Soil Matters? a European perspective’ held in Brussels in November 2015 as part of UN International Year of Soils.
Miche and Flora of Touchstone collaborations brought the matter and spirit of soil into the heart of the European Parliament, presenting the film to a diversity of over a 100 international delegates and advisors among whom UN Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO), European Commission, Climate Change Secretariat, Youth Food Movement, ActionAid and other European parliamentary representatives and soil advisors.
Alongside the film, they offered a Soil Shrine that amplified the simple but vital message of soil interdependence - that by growing, eating and sharing naturally grown food we are caring for our bodies, the living soil and enlivening resilient communities. Now is the time to ‘become a soil guardian everyday every mouthful’.
