Lee Campbell is a lifelong musician who calls New Orleans the best city to perform in. A career musician, his expertise lies with the bass guitar. In this interview, Mr. Campbell discusses his own path as a musician, which started at the Baptist Church, and the styles of music he finds inspiring. Mr. Campbell has played with several bands, most recently the Balsa Wood Flyers and the Jasper Brothers. His time at the Neutral Ground is colored by his experiences as a performer and as a member of the audience, both of which he sees as being part of a homey community. He compares playing at the Neutral Ground to other venues in his experience, which enlightens our understanding of the coffeehouse as a unique space for both music and community to flourish.
