CCCI Lecture Series: Professor Basile Zimmermann (East Asian Studies, University of Geneva (Switzerland)) - "Waves and Forms: Electronic Music Devices and Computer Encodings in China"
November 16, 2015
What happens when a technology is designed in one culture and used in another? How can science and technology studies (STS) frameworks address the concerns of Chinese studies? In this talk centered on Waves and Forms (a book published this year by MIT Press), Professor Zimmermann provides an insider's view of his study of electronic music devices and computer encodings in China, and discusses the use of the concept of culture in anthropology, sinology, and STS.
This lecture is co-sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology Studies and the Department of Music at Cornell.
