Expo Milano 2015
May - October 2015
The harmony and the variety of landscape and culture of Azerbaijan are at the centre of the pavilion conceived by Simmetrico network for Expo Milano 2015 in partnership with the architectural studio Arassociati, iDeas structural designers and landscape architectural studio AG&P. An amazing and immersive itinerary through installations, videos, sound reproductions, augmented reality experience and an APP to discover the preserved treasures of the Country. The main concept of the Pavilion is the biosphere, a system open to external fluxes but able to protect and foster the developing of life inside itself. According to this fundamental principle the pavilion was conceived with three biospheres mounted like jewels on the general structure of the building.
The undulating wooden walls embrace the building and recall the typical wind of the Azerbaijani territory, symbol of the cultural and creative fluxes crossing the country since time immemorial, and safeguard the microclimate of the pavilion. The pavilion was conceived in order to be dismantled at the end of Expo 2015 and assembled again in Baku. More than 300 people worked on it, 250 in Italy and 50 in Azerbaijan. Over 18 months were spent in the research and development of contents and more than 500 images, and 250 video were processed, after more than 150 days of shooting in time-lapse mode and over 55 minutes of stop-motion animation representing iconic elements of azerbaijani tradition.
