men. Obama proclaims an end to oil addiction. Battle lines are being drawn, and the
movement beyond fossil fuels begins.
In the hollows of the Appalachian Mountains a story is unfolding. Coal River Mountain,
the last of its kind in this region of West Virginia, is in the crosshairs of the national
energy debate. On one side, an international coal corporation is set to destroy the
mountain through a process known as mountaintop removal coal mining. On the other
side, a tenacious granny has found her own energy solution: a 220-turbine wind farm
along the ridges of the mountain.
