Mechanical Riverfront Kingdom (HD Trailer)
In this short docu-drama Clark Ashton salts the earth with meaning and purpose during the creation of his 'Mechanical Riverfront Kingdom' on Druid Hill in Decatur, Georgia. Spanning 25 years centered at the turn of the millennium, Ashton lays bare the wages of greed, zealotry, and human folly through his unique vision. Archival footage blends with dramatic re-enactments to provide historical context, and give insight into the ideas behind the constructions as they were developing.
Directors Statement: This movie is about the two most important and dangerous cultural constructs ever conceived by humanity: GOD and money. I hope the honesty, humor, sincerity, and commitment provide an interesting and compelling document of what it was like to be alive when I was, doing what I did. And maybe stimulate some honest conversation about these earth shaking yet often avoided subjects. My mission is to live free and purposeful as I reflect my perspective through symbolic structures that will outlast my existence. My kingdom continues to grow and evolve. For now, I am here to tend my garden and share it with visitors as an integral and living part of the experience. Since neither I, nor it will always be here, I have produced this film in an effort to preserve a memory of what it was, how it came about, and what it meant. Like the artwork itself, this film was a labor of love. It is a true zero budget production, 100 percent real.
