On Saturday 17th October, the Crush Festival shut down Post Office Lane for the evening for a pop up event. It is part of the Place Activation Program managed by Creative Regions on behalf of the Bundaberg Regional Council. Place Activation is about reinvigorating spaces, testing them and getting people to think differently about them. Mumma's Nest markets filled Gallery Park and spilled into the laneway. BRAG stayed open late. 2 stages filled the twilight evening with music. Street art demonstrations, upsized games, projections of historic city footage, art installations and interactive art events were offered to the community. With no marketing budget, 3000 people came out to see what was happening, curious to explore this space that most had never walked down before. Bundaberg is not Melbourne and not a city of laneways. But Post Office Lane is lined with historic buildings and quirky spaces that artists can enliven through their art form. Thanks to our partners Bundaberg Regional Council, Moncrieff Entertainment Centre, Mummas Nest Markets, BRAG, Bundaberg Libraries, Rotaract, the wealth of local performers who volunteered their time and the local food businesses that came out and took a risk on our event. Feedback - DO IT AGAIN! We will, but not in Post Office Lane. Stay tuned!
