‘URL Stone’ aims to study the longevity of media carriers that we use to store, transmit and preserve knowledge on.
The investigation juxtaposes the same information being held by two fundamentally different media carriers: one archaic, a text carved into stone and one modern, an encyclopedic article on Wikipedia, followed by a .jpeg image.
A URL address carved onto a marble plaque leads to an image file of this plaque stored on Wikipedia's database. The file is followed by an article that describes the intention of its creation and current location of the plate.
The investigation will only be complete when one of the two media carriers is eventually lost, thus revealing its less durable qualities in site of the other. Which one will be lost first? Time will tell…
