‘Despacio, Despacio’ follows full time Pancho Villa impersonator Rafaello Cellestino ride on horseback from Durango’s historic centre to its city limits.
Pancho Villa, the leader of the Division Del Norte during the Mexican Revolution of 1910-20, granted the Hollywood based Mutual Film’s Corporation access to film his battles in exchange for financial aid for the revolution. The ensuing contract dictated that Villa only fight battles between daylight hours and that certain actions be restaged for the camera. Despite containing mainly raw footage of actual conflict, ‘The Life Of Pancho Villa’ was deemed too tame for Hollywood audiences and the film reel has subsequently been lost.
