The Verbena of Valparaiso follows the work of artist Tony Hornecker in his latest project in Chile, La Verbena del Amor, named after a local flower - and a Spanish phrase for after dark fairs - that can be found in as many colours as those he uses to set the stage for another exuberant cabaret, this time about love.
The video works as a representation of Tony’s mind as expressed through his hands and his creations, giving life to unlikely beauties and magical experiences. The intimacy with the video's main's subject is helped by the videographer's close relationship with the artist and the 24/7 fly-on-the-wall approach using a variety of formats. Blurring the lines between documentary & fiction, the film explores themes of construction & destruction.
Filming, editing, interviewing, sound curating by Vincent Duraud.
