~~From the Seneca Falls 2 Evangelical Women's Rights Convention, July 14, 2010, Orlando, FL~~
I first heard the term "complementarian" in 2007 and believed that I was a "soft comp" because I'm not an egalitarian.
Complementarian sounds lovely on the surface, but I have problems with the foundational doctrines claimed by those who coined the term. I reject that there is any hierarchy among the co-equal and co-eternal Persons of the Godhead and the Eternal Subordination of the Son Doctrine. I reject primageniture, that women are the indirect and derivative image of God, that men sin because women fail to submit, etc...
But it took me three years to figure out that there was very little about the ideology that I believed. If I believe so few of the foundational concepts, I don't believe that it's appropriate that I claim the term.
