This is a gift to Arvo Pärt for his 75th birthday!
And to our little one week old son, who was hidden, but present all the way this film was created.
The story of this animation dates back to 2004 when I bought a handful of little turquoise blue mosaic bits in Rome.
My very first thought was just to glue these on a blue mirror I ordered when back home, but later I found that I should rather animate those on it first.
As the mosaic pieces were mirror-sided a piece Spiegel im Spiegel by Arvo Pärt came to my mind.
(Actually, for my sorrow, these mosaic bits were missing during the whole creating and shooting process and came out about lately when film was ready.)
The idea was to film from one mirrors reflection what happens on the other mirror. I didn't know how to achieve it with 'homely equipment' - so my husband invented a set-box, where one mirror has a camera hole in the middle.
There are two kinds of objects/directions in this film according to Arvo Pärts score. Direction Earth and direction Sky. Each object reflects a certain pitch in the melody part.
When shooting was done, I was already too pregnant to record the soundtrack with my friends (e.g. with double bass & harp) - so sorry for the right owners of this track. (It's no commercial project anyway.)
Many thanks to Leho Rubis for organizing an event where this film could be screened, otherwise there haven't been so much motivation to finish it!
