Clonic Mutations programme. Dali at Tate exhibition. Tate modern, July 2007. 'Marseamour" live music score for the film L'Etoile de Mer.
A classic surreal film staring Man Ray’s wife Kiki. L’Étoile de mer is based on Robert Desnos’s poem ‘la place de l’étoile’. Desnos and Man Ray shared a view that the starfish ‘inhabited liquid depths as well as heavenly reaches’. Through the use of alchemical and occult symbolism and distorted images, Man Ray sought to see beyond objective rationalism to a mystically transfigured world. López Figueroa’s wrote a poem as lyrics for a sensual and hypnotic vocal score that merges seamlessly a bolero with contemporary opera, in combination with live music and pre-recorded sounds.
