At 11,049 feet, Telescope Peak is the high point of the Panamint Mountains and directly overlooks Badwater, 15 miles away in Death Valley at an elevation of 282 feet below sea level. This is the greatest vertical relief to be found anywhere in the continental United States.
This is a time-lapse video of the shadow of Telescope Peak and the Panamint Mountains advancing over Death Valley and the Badwater Basin at Sunset.
Shot from Mahogany Flats at the trail head leading up to the peak. The Badwater salt pan is just visible on the left, Badwater itself is hidden behind the near ridge.
