Williams Syndrome is a very rare genetic disease, that caused our precious daughter Sophie Elise to enter heaven.
Sophie Elise Henkel joined with the Angels on October 18 2009 at 2 1/2 years old. She suffered catastrophic complications from open heart surgery. This surgery was neccessary to try to repair problems in her heart that was a result of Williams Syndrome.
We celebrated her extraordinary life on October 24, 2009. Sophie was unable to develop relationships outside her immediately family due to her high levels anxiety, also another symptom of Williams Syndrome, in infants and toddlers. However, over 130 people came to celebrate her extraordinary life with us. These people throughout Sophie's life were able to witness how extraordinary she was by watching her from afar. Her joy was infectious, her laugh contagious. Her cardiologist drove 3 hours one-way from DUKE to participate in this celebration with us. She was so thrilled to see how much joy Sophie had in her 2 1/2 years of life on earth and how much she loved to worship the Lord through singing and dancing.
Sophie's pain did not define her life, the more pain she was in, the more worshipped. She was victorious in the circumstances of her life. Sophie has taught many how to endure the most impossible assignments from God and how to glorify the Father in them! God's mercy, grace, courage, goodness, joy, patience and love were so evidently manifested in the face of her tremendous suffering and adversity. She will be deeply missed. We are looking forward to the day when we see her again in heaven!
Our hope in heaven is the promise we stand on because we know the work Jesus did on the cross is not in vain.
