Paralysis is a pre-study to the video artwork Largo (2016), in which the ‘immobile' body of the artist is towed through various landscapes. Departing from the question how it would feel to be completely paralysed and dependent, both works explore the notion of surrender in a completely different way. In Paralysis, van Laere is fastened onto a table, lying motionless for 24 hours. The original performance started on Saturday, November 21, 2015, lasting until Sunday 22. The last two hours, the live performance could be visited by a select audience.
