The Danforth Museum of Art, located in Framingham, MA is a wonderful and unique museum. Besides featuring American artists and holding the largest collection of work in the world by Meta Warrick Fuller, it has a museum school attached.
This is no ordinary school but rather one with over 500 classes for ages 1-92 that is tightly interwoven into everything the Museum does. Education is clearly the central theme here as evidenced by the award winning programs highlighted by their Teen Docent program, where they train high school students to give tours to the children from the museum school.
It is fascinating to watch the transformation of both the teen docents, as they learn important life skills about leadership, and the museum school aged children as they interact and literally jump into the artwork. The Danforth Museum of Art not only lights the fire, it makes it grow to an inferno and keeps it burning for a lifetime!
