Abstract: American higher education is distinguished from non-Western instruction as either renown or even problematic in its insistence on achieving robust, active, student engagement. As networks expand globally, we explored when, why, and how non-Western students engage with others, including faculty. Our findings reveal that engagement requires a multi-prong approach, particularly when working with a rising international student population. This session offers significant contributions to learning how to (and how not to) engage in the online or blended classroom.
