BIG THANK YOU to THE DEEP JONES for placing their trust in me and my team for their project. When I was first approached, they informed me that they wanted to do four music videos. I was a bit skeptical, to say the least. That night, as I lay listening to their album, I remember thinking to myself, "my God these guys are talented." The gears started working. How can we produce four videos on a budget? How can I do these guys justice? "The stories must intertwine," this way we can get multiple shots in one location for multiple videos. This will save time, money, actors, and should cause me to have a nervous breakdown... PERFECT!
I wrote the scripts to the videos before even agreeing to do the project. I wanted the videos to portray a strong message. I know docs and features can give voices to the voiceless, so why not a music video? I remember asking the boys what had inspired them to write this album. They went through every single song and explained a fascinating story that influenced them. In a generation where music, for the masses, seems purposely designed to be mindless dribble, here are a group of guys, from east end Montreal, making music, not for the hopes of fortune and fame, but for the sole purpose of telling a story... Umm, that sounds familiar.
When the scripts were presented, I got the classic slow look up from the page. "You do remember our budget, right?" "Yes, yes, it can be done, we just have to be organized," were the last words a sane Director spoke...
To say we hit a few snags along the way would be a huge understatement. We had major role changes after Day One of shooting. Scenes were being cut. Locations that had given us the green light, pulled the plug last minute. We had to improvise a jail cell after Parks and Recreation deemed our prison location unsafe. We had to improvise a make-out session/love scene because one actor decided she didn't want to be perceived in a certain light.... and the list drips on into obscurity.
In the end, we pulled through, and we all still love each other, YAY! I am very grateful for the trust this talented group of guys bestowed upon me. I pray these videos bring you success my brothers, and that they may open doors for you, because you deserve nothing less. Thank you to the fabulous actors and crew that placed their heart and soul into their work. I look forward to working with all of you very soon. Peace out homies!
