Jupiter is at its closest to us in 47 years.....a mere 368 million miles. It won't be this close for another 12 years. The only object in the sky brighter than Jupiter at this time is the Moon itself -- only 238,000 miles away.
This video was shot with my Canon 7D using a 100-400mm Canon telephoto with two Canon teleconverters (2.0 + 1.4) stacked on it. With a crop factor of 1.6 with respect to a full frame dslr, the apparent focal length of this setup is an astounding 1,792 mm!!! (approx 36x a "normal" 50 mm lens).
