This is Part 1 of María Lugones' lecture entitled Decolonial Feminism, given at the Decolonial Summer School Middelburg, in 2014. Lugones discusses the origin of Modern gender as well as the many responses to gender construction by various non-western critics, scholars, activists, and indigenous cultures & epistemologies. Part 2 is planned to be released by April of this year. This film was produced entirely by the volunteer work of UTA undergraduate Lamia Yanouri, the principle subtitlist, transcriber, and editor. Many thanks to Roland Bolz for filming the event - on behalf of all the decolonials involved with the De-Archive Collaboration, we'd like to thank María Lugones for her time, her voice, and her life's work.
