As an invaluable contributor to contemporary American Music, Pauline Olveros' career is over 50 years of indispensable music making. In 2012, Oliveros was awarded the John Cage Award. She is also the founder of the Deep Listening Institute. Her primary instrument is the accordion; her work explores finding new sounds by way of finding new uses for old ones.
