In the spring of 2015, choreographer and dance artist Olive Prince collaborated with Visual Artist-Creative Arts Therapist Carrie Powell for the first time to create the acclaimed Fringe show “Of Our Remnants”.
“Every object of value had been locked away with care for safekeeping, and on the bare walls there were only the outlines of the pictures that had been taken down. Chairs from the house, and those lent by neighbors, were lined up against the walls …and the empty spaces seemed immense and the voices had a ghostly resonance because the large pieces of furniture had been moved to one side…”
An image drawn from the book Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel Garcia Marquez began the investigation of the tangible remnants leftover from the process of life and loss. As a resident at the Iron Factory in Philadelphia, Prince and Powell built “Of Our Remnants” as a work exploring the concept and construct of remnants both literal and figurative.
