On Jan 18, 2016 at 11:39 p.m. the Crawford County Sheriff’s Dept. was notified of a house fire in the village of Wauzeka. The caller stated that the house was engulfed in flames and there was smoke coming from the windows.
The caller along with a Crawford County Sheriff’s Deputy and neighbors attempted to gain entry into the residence but couldn’t due to the amount of smoke and fire. The Wauzeka Fire Dept. and First responders along with the Boscobel Fire Dept. and Boscobel EMS responded to the call.
After the fire was extinguished the bodies of two girls were discovered inside the house. The girls age 12 and 15 were the only occupants in the home at the time of the fire. Both girls were pronounced dead at the scene by the Crawford County Coroner Joe Morovits. The State Fire Marshal has been called to assist with the investigation. The cause of the fire is unknown at this time.
