"A Way Back" was selected to accompany the Canadian Premiere of Oliver Hirschbiegel's (Downfall) new feature film "13 Minutes" as the film's supporting short at the 2017 Willson Oakville International Film Festival in Ontario, Canada.
DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT / TECHNICAL NOTES
Challenged with a zero budget, the film was shot using an iphone 5 and Go Pro Hero Black 4. All post production was achieved using Final Cut X on a Laptop. My primary objective with this project was to illustrate the inner conflict of a man torn between both remorse and the inability to accept the finality of his past actions. I am a big fan of classic black and white films from the 1950s and 1960s such as Rashomon, Lord of the Flies, Psycho and The Seventh Seal and drew on the cinematic style from this genre as a means to present a voice from the past, offering the film’s audience the impression they are perhaps watching a piece of work from a time capsule, long lost and revealed years later.

Director Biography - Alan King
A professional actor and fine art graduate from the Victorian College of the Arts, filmmaking represents the ideal opportunity for Alan, to amalgamate the two disciplines. An advocate that creativity is frequently born from constraint, Alan often shoots guerilla style on a micro budget, relishing the challenge of communicating a story within these parameters.
