The first annual Purtle.com Brass Camp took place July 16-17, 2010 at Anderson University in Anderson, South Carolina with participants coming from around the world and watching online from all regions of the globe. Jeff Purtle presented the teachings of Claude Gordon. The two featured artists were Harry Kim, founder of the Vine Street Horns, and Susan Slaughter, Principal Trumpet with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra for 37 years. Other guest speakers included Joe Marcinkiewicz, Dr. Keith Amstutz and Rich Ita. Harry Kim performed the Friday night concert with a 7 piece Latin band, doing a variety of Jazz and Latin music. Susan Slaughter performed with the Monarch Brass Quintet with Stacy Simpson on trumpet, Laurel Ohlson on French horn, Jeannie Little on trombone and Velvet Brown on tuba. PbC 2011 will take place in summer of 2011, with University credit being offered, Harry Kim returning, another day being added with a dinner and s jam session, more for all brass players, and more exciting guest artists soon to be announced.
