It has been customary to treat sound classifications separately - 1) physical characteristics of sounds in the field of acoustics, 2) the perception of sounds in the field of psychoacoustics, 3) the cognitive and emotional variables of sounds in the field of semiotics, semantics and aesthetics. The attempt to merge these areas is today more than an interesting academic endeavor, it is a crucial scientific step in order to enhance human living conditions in sonically complex urban environments.
”Won’t You Listen” is a sample collage of street recordings from Stockholm, New York City and Paris. The music played as intro/outro, and as transitions in between the city soundscapes, are compositions produced from these very samples to celebrate the intrinsic qualities of pulse, intensity, rhythm and tonal harmony within the cities.
“Won’t You Listen” was screened at the Eco Health Conference Aug 2010 in London as a ”Honorable Mention” and at the Sound Acts Conference in Denmark Sept 2010.
