Patty Cripe grew up in the heartland of Kansas City, Missouri. She ran track, majored in anthropology in college, and lived and worked in Europe a few years after graduating. Coming back to the US, a friend suggested she take the test to become a firefighter. No one in her family had been one but the job seemed like a good fit. That was nearly 15 years ago. Since then Patty has worked the hoses and driven the engine for a few different firehouses. Two days after 9/11, she and some members of her company were at the World Trade Center looking for survivors. "I'm a sister in a band of brothers and I love it," she says about firefighting. Check out the video to see why.
