This is a very rough portrait trailer edit and the basis for my film “THIN FOR COMEDY, THICK FOR MURDER.”
Harold Adler talks about the craft of type and lettering from an impressive career of hand-lettering his work. The film title process in digital-natal early days of the computer were called film 'opticals' – used for producing title art & design via the photo-chemical process, in post production.
The three films he talks about are:
”THE SEVEN YEAR ITCH,” 1955 – directed by Billy Wilder
“PSYCHO,” 1960 – directed by Alfred Hitchcock
”BONJOUR TRISTESSE,” 1958 – directed by Otto Preminger
Harold Adler was Saul Bass's lettering artist for most of Bass's film title design career. He was also my mentor and hero before his passing. He is missed beyond expectation.
RIP dearest craftsman and human; you will always mean the world to me.
