An event unique to the Magic City, I’ve Never Not Been From Miami marks the first time all ten of WPBT’s commissioned short films on Miami and South Florida artists—made by Miami and South Florida filmmakers, supported by the Knight Foundation—will screen together in a grand theatrical setting.
After debuting over a series of weeks on WPBT’s acclaimed “ArtsLoft” program last fall, the collective power of these ten films inspired plans for one epic night. Their cumulative effect seizes the singular essence of what it means to create and live in Miami. What is it like to be an artist from Miami? “I’ve never not been from Miami,” says one artist, summarizing a certain lifeblood that flows through the work of all those represented here—both behind and in front of the camera.
These films have not been screened since last year’s debut, and seeing them presented in a single, fluid, coherent program, with all ten filmmakers and all ten artists in attendance—and with an on-stage after-party to keep the spirit (and the Stella Artois) flowing all night—will be an experience any lover of this city’s community of extraordinary artists and filmmakers must not miss. – Jaie Laplante
