I first examined the Quick Access Pistol Safe in February, 2016. The safe had few of the design problems of other handgun safes on the market, though the housing containing its locking mechanism left a gap I was able to exploit with a small screwdriver and a bristle from a street sweeping machine. Using these, I was able to dislodge the spring from the latch, which allowed me to pick up the safe and throw the latch. I decided to re-examine the safe after a year had passed to see if any improvements had been made.
As this video shows, the safe can still be accessed with a piece of metal shim, and the safe is vulnerable even if it is bolted down. This safe was examined May 16, 2017. To learn more about the handgun safe industry, visit handgunsaferesearch.com.
