PSYCHEDELIC PRINCESS (I love you)
- a video installation
Looking uncanny and positioned in an interior that is too flashy, the Psychedelic Princess pronounces the following: 'I love you', 'I need you' and 'I want to spend my life with you'. With endless repetition and overlapping, these statements, supported by the automatic body movements, lose the expected sense and emotion and make the entire picture audio-visually unbearable.
The installation deals with the issues of rapid female emancipation. A contemporary woman is smart, beautiful and independent. The new princess is capable of earning money, making lunch, changing tire and still be able to conserve her physical appearance. The feminists of the 70s performed Bra-burning rituals thus terminating with the basic female means of manipulation. The contemporary woman, nowadays, uses all weapons available to her and even expands the arsenal. This leads us to an idea that such 'perfect' being will not need a man at all in the future.
Even though there are other ways of getting pregnant with artificial insemination and all, the Psychedelic Princess has still not entirely rejected men. Now, she takes this confused creature in her arms and takes care of it, at the same time making sure that she does not demean its confidence. Since she is no longer certain in the necessity of having a man, this duty of a caretaker becomes ever more automatic and the sentences that are being pronounced terrifyingly unnatural. This 'on-off' method causes our heroine to become psychically unstable. In that aspect, it is no wonder that hysterical behavior is mainly associated with women, while the weakened chauvinism still fights to find the arguments that justify its existence.
