The Engaged Smart Transport project uses real-time traffic and weather sensor data, combined with other data sources, such as eyewitness and behavioural information, to better understand the factors affecting people’s travel patterns. It reveals where and why congestion happens and identifies solutions to address these problems. It utilises multiple data sources from sensor-rich environments to capture transport usage as well as local environmental and behavioural conditions influencing traffic patterns. Big data analytics (including sentiment analysis) and behavioural research are used to find the reasons that lead to congestion. It implements a range of intelligent and targeted congestion reduction interventions.
