Briefing Explores How Medical Schools and Teaching Hospitals Are Addressing the Opioid Epidemic:
As part of their ongoing commitment to address the community health issues, medical schools and teaching hospitals are continually developing innovative curricula and teaching methods. These institutions’ work to train the next generation of doctors in pain management and strategies to prevent, assess, and treat substance abuse, as well as advancing clinical care combating opioid dependence, was the focus of an AAMC-hosted congressional briefing last week. The briefing was moderated by Atul Grover, MD, PhD, AAMC chief public policy officer, and featured presentations from Terence Flotte, MD, University of Massachusetts Medical School; Bradley Allen, MD, PhD, Indiana University School of Medicine; and Alison Holmes, MD, MPH, Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth.
