The Mustard Seed Drama Club Presents:
A theatrical collaboration with Verb Theatre and The PBC Collective
Theatre’s greatest tragedy re-imagined by members of Calgary’s homeless community
Plagues. Mistaken identity. Incest. Murder. The timeless story by Sophocles has been adapted by the Mustard Seed’s Drama Club in collaboration with artists from Verb Theatre and the PBC Collective.
Over the last few months, artists from the PBC and Verb Theatre have engaged in an artist residency at the Seed Downtown, rehearsing five times a week with members of the homeless community to shape this ancient drama into their own. The play combines video projection, sound design, and a cast fully comprised of Mustard Seed guests. Using humour, irony, and tragedy this adaptation presents a new take on an old drama and also challenges perceptions about homelessness.
Various Seed guests have contributed to this theatrical collaboration as performers, designers, and writers.
The piece was performed in May of 2010 for the public at the Mustard Seed Downtown and at EPCOR Centre’s Motel.
