This is a work in two parts.
The first part shows a body as a prosaically functional mode of transport. What starts as a resolutely practical way of getting to one's destination is restricted by the opposing force of a backwards momentum. The body in motion is a means of tackling an incline. When going against the aid to do so it becomes a hindrance. A paradox. In addition the scene has an audience. What starts as a purpose ends as a performance.
The second part is an engagement. The movement as an action; a sequence. The same practicality is applied. What starts as an individual gesture links a body of movements together. The sequence of 10 binds the group. This scene also has an audience, so whilst the active engagement is asked of you who are seated the passive engagement of you standing, also plays a function.
The text is the interlink between the two parts. The one of the
foreign body struggling uphill with the both literal and abstract subtitle and the one of the known body in the room, still with the same subtext. The presence of the audience is the common denominator within the 2 situations.
